In German, understanding noun gender, the four cases, and verb position in sentences is central. It is important to practice grasping the structure of the whole sentence, not just word inflections.

At FRENG, we apply our original learning format—modeled on the listening and reading section structure of the TOEIC® Listening & Reading Test—to German as well. All language questions, including English, are independently created by FRENG and are not official TOEIC® tests or official questions. Grammar and vocabulary questions are created to match the characteristics of each language.
It's not just repeating the same questions as yesterday. New mock tests are added every day, and the number of questions you can study keeps piling up.
Even if there are 120 minutes' worth of questions each day, you don't have to answer them all.
Just 5 minutes of listening during your commute. Just 10 minutes of reading during lunch break. A few grammar questions on your weak points before bed.
Study today's material at your own pace, as much as you can manage.
We value helping you keep going without overexerting yourself.
TOEIC® is an English proficiency test used in more than 160 countries around the world. It is particularly strong at measuring practical English skills, with an emphasis on communication in business and the workplace.
Rather than simply testing knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, it uses as its subject matter situations actually encountered in business and daily life, such as workplace conversations, meetings, phone calls, business trips, contacting clients, emails, advertisements, and informational notices.
It also consists of 7 Parts that systematically check practical language ability, including questions where you look at a photo and understand the situation, questions where you choose an appropriate response to a question, questions where you listen to and comprehend conversations and announcements, and questions where you read emails and documents and understand their content.
FRENG has applied this practical and systematic TOEIC® question format to learning German.
Drawing on the wide range of business and everyday topics and question structures used in TOEIC®, we provide original learning questions that let you practice German listening and reading. Rather than simply moving the settings and characters to German-speaking regions, it is a structure for learning common, U.S.-centered topics in German.
In addition, it combines grammar and vocabulary questions that are important in learning German, such as noun gender, the four cases, article declension, verb position, and separable verbs.
This allows you to train not only memorization of words and grammar, but also the comprehensive language skills needed to listen to and read German and accurately understand its content.

When you memorize nouns in Word Quest and Word Match, you also check their articles.
In Short text fill-in-the-blank, you practice choosing the article or noun ending that fits the sentence.
In Long passage fill-in-the-blank and Reading comprehension, you get a grip on sentence structure while paying attention to where the verb goes.
In Reading comprehension and Listening, you read (or listen to) the whole sentence to the end and practice grasping the meaning of the verb.
You build your vocabulary in Word Quest and Word Match, and practice reading long texts in Reading comprehension.
From basics to application, following the order below as a guide will make it easier to organize what you study. You may also start from the middle depending on your learning experience.
Get used to German sounds through shadowing and Part 1 and Part 2 listening
Build your vocabulary with Word Quest and take on the conversations and announcements in Part 3 and Part 4
Check familiar expressions with grammar and reading questions

TOEIC® is an English test used in more than 160 countries around the world. In Japan and South Korea, many companies use it as a guide for hiring and promotion.
The topics of the questions are all workplace and everyday situations, such as meetings, phone calls, business trips, emails, and notices. For that reason, TOEIC® scores are widely used as a guide to how well someone can understand English in business settings.
The German version of FRENG turns this type of question into German. Because you can listen to and read workplace and everyday situations in the same question format as TOEIC®, it helps you build the ability to understand business situations in German.

For German, getting used to the sounds is the most efficient approach. Put reading aside for now and start with shadowing. The short sentences are built around situations you would actually encounter, so practice them as many times as you like until they become your own. You don't need to learn grammar rules first. As you listen a lot and speak out loud, you will naturally start to notice unnatural phrasing.
For vocabulary, Word Quest plays audio for each word, so you can solve them even if you can't read the letters.
Beginners can solve Part 1 (Photo questions) and Part 2 (Response questions) of Listening. Part 3 is Conversation questions and Part 4 is Announcement questions. They are harder than Parts 1 and 2, but they are essential for real conversations with German speakers, so be sure to give them a try.
The important thing is to always review after solving Part 3 and Part 4. When you reopen a question you've already solved, you can choose between "Try again" and "View translation." Pressing "View translation" plays the audio of the same question, with subtitles and translation shown at the same time. Repeating this will help it come naturally to you.
Rather than just memorizing rules, find the forms within example sentences and repeatedly check them through short fill-in-the-blank exercises and reading comprehension. It's especially good to focus on practicing "the four cases and article declension."
Listen to short audio, check the parts you couldn't catch in writing, and then practice the sound groupings through shadowing. For long sentences, listen to the end before checking the meaning.
We recommend learning nouns together with their articles. Nouns you learned in Word Quest and Word Match can also be checked in Short text fill-in-the-blank.
Even long words become easier to understand if you break them into parts using words you already know as clues. Build your vocabulary with Word Quest and Word Match, and get used to it through Reading comprehension.
